Phoenix is America’s hottest city with more than 100 days of triple-digit temps in 2019 and increases in heat-related deaths each of the past four years. It’s not surprising a city built in the desert Southwest would be hot, but it doesn’t mean residents aren’t fighting back. Phoenix “is working to fight the literal heat” with the goal of becoming “the country’s first heat-ready city — equipped to survive a rapidly warming world.”
