A Northern California community is exploring inner-city farming as a new way to get fresh food to people who need it. The City of Elk Grove, California has been looking at urban farming as a tool to combat “food deserts.”
There is a proposal on the table which would allow farming on unimproved, and underdeveloped public property. It would also allow commercial and non-profit farmers to sell their produce at on site stands, farmers markets, or community markets.
