It’s not quite like heading down the block to the neighborhood drug store, but for some public employees in Utah a trip to Mexico to fill a prescription makes complete sense. Utah’s “Rx Tourism” program for public employees made headlines when it launched a year ago, and in that time “10 Utahns have traveled over the Mexican border to pick up specialty medications at about half the price charged in the United States.” The program, which covers “airfares for the patient and a companion, and offers a $500 cash incentive for each trip” has saved the state $225,000.
